Sea of Dust Game Log

This is a place where I (the DM) can try to keep track of what's been done. I'm hoping to not include any spoilers, as I intend this to be a place to look back for ideas, events, or just notes. The real work will still happen in that nasty Blue Binder of Campaign Creation +4!! (Just wait till I get another black one! Then it's +5!!)

Session One

(7 Planting - 15 Planting)

After an arduous march through the Hellfurnace Mountains, the party comes upon a split in the trail where they meet an Elven Druid kneeling over the body of a recently killed Human. Erryndiir (the Druid) mentions that there is something strange going on in the local area, and the fact that Logbrag, the normally indifferent ogre who lives nearby, attacked this person proves that the unrest here is only getting worse. The party starts investigating the nearby caves where Logbrag, along with a small band of kobolds, lives.

Outcome:
Party began exploration of the cave complex, though they haven't come upon the kobolds. They rested in Hadler's Gap for a week, where they met some of the locals. Session ended with party licking their wounds, and a strange face staring at them from the pond in the large cavern.

Session Two

(15 Planting - 17 Planting)

Having exhausted their resources in the caves near Hadler's Gap, the adventurers decided to return to town to rest and restock. A trip into the forests nearby eventually got the party in touch with Thraeness, Erryndiir's friend wolf, and then Erryndiir himself while in town the next morning. The group told the Druid of the strange occurance at the pool, which really seemed to impress the Elf. The party returned to the cave for more exploration later that day. Having found grappling hooks and rope, the group was able to climb up into the back parts of the cavern complex where they found the kobolds. These kobolds had been undergoing some sort of twisting changes, making their fangs and nails quite long, as well as giving their scales a red tint. Kaithra was able to explore a litte more of the cave than his friends, unfortunately by getting swept downriver from the battle the party was fighting (where do those rafts go anyway?). The group rejoined soon, though, after getting a few more pesky kobolds out of the way. The party, all together, then chanced a peek down another passageway where they found a kobold Sorceror and his bodyguards. The Sorceror seemed quite put out by the death of his guards, and seemed much less bothered by his own impending doom. "The Master will be quite upset," he cried before furiously attacking the party.

Outcome:
Party continued exploration of the caves, and have begun seeing real evidence that something strange is happening in the area near Hadler's Gap.

Session Three

(17 Planting - 18 Planting)

The adventurers restock in the hamlet and Erryndiir turns up again. The party tells him of the strange symbol they've found on the pendants of the kobolds, and the Elf borrows one to do a bit of research. The group returns to the cave complex and finish exploring the entrance network. Turlough, a Dwarf who had been captured by some Derro, was imprisoned here was finally set free. Turlough is currently travelling with the group and has proven to be quite competent in battle. The party found the rafts again and followed the river eastward where they discovered another complex of caves housing kobolds.

Outcome:
Party left off after taking over a ledge overlooking a large underground pool fed by the river.

Session Four

(18 Planting - 23 Planting)

Pursuing the escaping kobold sniper lead to an ambush where the party began to notice more evidence of the strangeness of the area. The farther in they go, the more twisted the residents of this complex get. After a couple tough battles, and now too deep within the bowels of the caves to turn back, the party decides to rest where they are. Continuing deeper into the caverns, the party comes upon an alltogether different sort of tunnel. Instead of rough, natural caverns, the group finds themselves surrounded by finely worked stone walls and floors, beautifully carved statues, and adornments not seen in the rest of the place. Strange sights and sounds begin to plague the adventurers testing not only their resolve, but their capacity to handle the unknown.

The band of heroes ended the foray into the Temple complex in a torture chamber now littered with the corpses of a dozen twisted kobolds

Session Five

(23 Planting - 2 Flocktime)

Quickly moving back into the hallway, the party came across a very strange room full of mutated kobolds. During the tremendous battle that (inevitably) ensued, the party was joined by Brok, a Ranger sent by Erryndiir to see if the group had died in the caverns (it had been quite a while since they had gone back to Hadler's Gap, after all). The battle was won, and the party decided it was nigh time to return to the small hamlet and restock and rest. Back in the Inn, Erryndiir shared what he had learned of the symbol on the pendant Surreal had loaned him. It seems that some ancient chaos gods had been deposed by the modern pantheon of the world of Oerth, and that in an attempt to exert their power in the physical world again, they managed to slip an agent into the cavern where the kobolds were quickly converted. Word of the small kobold tribe's power began to spread among the beastly humanoids, and Derro were the first to arrive. Awed by the strength of the clan, a few Derro were converted and the "Good Word" seems to be spreading among them as well. The presence of the Chaos Agent, however, is begining to corrupt the natural world around its lair, and has gained the attentions of Erryndiir and Brok. The initial party arrived, hopefully, in time to stop this twisted power from growing. Safe and sound in the hamlet, the group gathers themselves for the coming storm.

Session Six

(2 Flocktime - 4 Flocktime)

The party has rested, relaxed, and retrained and are about to leave town for another foray into the Vault when it is discovered that some strangers have come into the village. The Rennee have come to Hadler's Gap, along with another stranger who was just along for the ride into the Sea of Dust, a paladin in service to Heironeous. The gypsies set up shop by the small river that flows near the hamlet, and offer goods and advise to those who need them. Lyradil talks a bit with Horth (the paladin), and invites him to explore the cavern temple dedicated to elder chaos gods.
